Prep Your Home
- Get rid of standing water around your home to prevent common pests like mosquitoes.
- Frequently trim the hedges, mow the lawn, and remove yard waste to help with pest prevention.
- Store firewood at least 5 feet away from the home and elevate it on racks to prevent termites.
- Cover holes in window screens and close up gaps in doors to keep pests out.
- Keep the kitchen clean and store food properly to avoid ants and roaches.
- Check outdoor furniture for spider webs and egg sacks.
Protect Your Family
- Wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants when heading outdoors to protect against ticks and mosquitoes.
- Wear light-colored clothing to deter mosquitoes.
- Avoid scented products that may attract insects.
- Apply insect repellent with active ingredients like DEET, picaridin, oil of lemon eucalyptus and IR3535.
- Check for ticks thoroughly after a day outdoors. If you find one, remove it immediately.
- Avoid the outdoors during dawn and dusk as these are peak mosquito hours.
