South Carolina's Mosquito Problem

In South Carolina, mosquitoes are a fact of life.

Why do we hate mosquitoes so much? They buzz, they bite, and they leave big, swollen red welts in their wake. They carry a host of diseases, like dengue fever and heart-worms, that can be harmful to you, your family, and even your pets. At best, mosquitoes are an annoyance; at worst, they can be fatal.

There are steps that you can take to minimize your exposure to mosquitoes and to limit their ability to bite you. Wearing long sleeves and insect repellent as well as strategically planning your outings around peak mosquito hours are some simple steps you can take to avoid the pesky skeeters.

If you’re unfortunate enough to get bit even after all your precautions, there are a plethora of home remedies to help you soothe the burning and itching left from a mosquito bite. Common household items like garlic, toothpaste, honey, and even extreme temperatures can soothe an itch effectively.

Of course, there are steps you can take around your own yard to prevent mosquitoes from habitating. Cleaning your gutters, weeding your garden, and removing any sources of standing water make a lot of headway towards eliminating the pests from your yard.

But ultimately, you don’t want short term relief - you need a long term strategy to deal with the mosquitoes once and for all. That’s where we come in.

At Home Pest, we take your pest problems personally. Working in South Carolina for over 50 years, we have firsthand experience with mosquitoes - they invade our yards, too!

If you feel that you may have a mosquito control issue or have seen them outside (or inside) we can assess your home to learn where they are and we can help you decide the best course of action to get rid of them.
