Few of us like rats or mice. Certainly, no one wants them in their home. A Rodent’s natural environment is located outside, but they can find their way inside our houses at any time. Fall is the time for most rodent home invasions.
Because most of their food depletes in the Fall, rodents look for other sources of food. Our homes are a good option.

Identification

Size: Small in size, it rarely exceeds two inches in length, weighing one ounce.

Color: Typically, grey in color, however, some may be darker in appearance.

Habits

Mice are excellent climbers and are capable of gaining entry through holes and soffit vents and around cables entering the building through holes in gable vent screens. Mice can fit through a crack or hole ¼ inch. Mice make nests in and around the home, especially in stacked firewood, stones and bricks, and piles of leaves or other debris.

Tips for Control

General tips for limiting infestation:

The most effective way to avoid an invasion is to minimize areas that attract rodents, and seal as many holes and cracks in the outside of the home as possible.

• Keep firewood stored away from the house.
• Remove any piles of debris, stones, bricks, etc. that are near to your home.
• Don’t allow piles of leaves to accumulate next to your home’s foundation.
• Seal any hole or crack larger than ¼ inch.
• Install thick weather stripping on the bottom of all doors to prevent rodents from entering.
